Weekly Writing Prompts 11/22/15

It’s a busy week for those in the United States. With Thanksgiving on Thursday and many people travelling to be with family, Black Friday shopping for those of you who are into that (definitely not for me!), and the official start of Christmas preparations, there’s a lot going on. And here in the Midwest, winter has started to take hold.

With the busyness of the holiday season and the winter doldrums for some, writing can often get pushed aside. This week’s writing prompts are meant to be quick and easy, a little creative moment in an otherwise hectic, and potentially stressful, week.

Happy writing!

WEEK OF NOVEMBER 22, 2015

SUNDAY

The scientist laughed. “You think you can stop me,” he howled menacingly. “It’s too late, I’ve already created the bacteria, and you’ll never find out where I’ve stashed it. Only I have the cure, only I…”

MONDAY

You’re standing on the stage in front of a packed auditorium. You’ve dreamed of this moment since you were a young child. Your first performance as a professional singer. A nervous energy races through your body as you step in front of the cheering fans. “This is it,” you tell yourself. But as the first notes fill the auditorium, you see…….

TUESDAY

Describe a time when you were afraid to do something, but after you did it, you realized the benefit of trying something new and/or taking a risk.

WEDNESDAY

With many people travelling for the holidays, planning a trip can be both fun and stressful at the same time. Write about a favorite holiday trip – Where did you go? Did you drive, fly, take a bus? What challenges did you have in getting there? What was a favorite part of the visit?

THURSDAY

For those in the United States – What are your family’s Thanksgiving traditions? Do you have a traditional meal or do you enjoy alternate meal ideas?

For those outside the United States – What are some things for which you are most thankful? Write about special people, special moments, or memories that you appreciate.

FRIDAY

What are your favorite activities for a cold, winter day? Do you stay in and watch movies or read a book? Do you brave the weather and go play in the snow? Or, if you live in a warmer climate, what do you enjoy about not having a real winter? Do you wish you got snow occasionally?

SATURDAY

Write about a favorite movie or television show. What do you like most about the show? Favorite characters? Favorite episodes?
