Hello and welcome to my new and improved website!
By day, I live behind the brown cubicle walls of a corporate office. But by night, I live my dream of becoming a full-time writer. I’ve always loved stories and have been writing since early elementary school.
Fast forward. After teaching for a few years and another few years in an office, I decided it was time to pursue my love of stories by getting a Master’s degree in English. I learned about the craft of writing and developed a love/hate relationship with literary theory. I also discovered that I loved teaching writing.
After grad school, I ended up back in an office when my student loans started coming due. I’m sure many of you can relate. But the longer I’ve been away from the classroom, the stronger my desire to write and teach writing has become. So here goes…
While there will be an occasional foray into personal interests outside of my main goals, I plan to concentrate on a few central ideas:
- My writing journey – I am currently working on completing my first novel. I’m not ready to reveal many details just yet, but I am loving the process. Suffice it to say, the current manuscript is much different from the original outline.
- Higher education – As a teacher, I’ve taught at all levels, from elementary to college, as well as special education. During my Master’s program, I had the chance to teach composition and tutor students in the Writing Center. As a result, helping students better understand academic writing and develop skills needed to be successful in all areas of college life is important to me.
- All things literary – Naturally, as a writer I also love reading and learning about authors. Anything related to books, storytelling, or publishing is fair game.
Thanks for checking out my revamped website! It’s a bit of a work-in-progress right now, but I look forward to interacting with you on this new adventure. The great thing about new beginnings is that they are just that – NEW. Whether it’s a new school year, a new writing project, or a new business, this is your chance to be excited about possible opportunities and embrace challenges that make you grow.
