Building Community – Blog Challenge Day 2

One of the most exhilarating parts of being a creative person is knowing someone else (besides your mother) appreciates your work. Sharing your work publicly can also be one of the scariest parts of creating. Putting your work on display opens you up to criticism along with praise. But sharing your work ultimately helps build a community of like-minded supporters who value what you do.

It’s one thing to start a blog or a social media page to display your work and share your message. But how do you get people to read and view what you do? And once people show up, how do you get them to stay?

Like any relationship, virtual community building takes effort. Someone who stops by your blog or looks at your YouTube channel needs to find something they enjoy. Not everyone will like what you do, but for those who make the effort to support you, it’s important you give them something in return. This includes your regular content, but it should also include extra surprises for those willing to follow you regularly. Having an email list of subscribers helps you establish a group of valued supporters. In return, your supporters should expect to receive valuable information from you.

With working full-time and trying to finish my novel, I freely admit I don’t always do a good job of creating new blog content, whether that’s a new post or even adding some writing samples for people to read. One of my goals for this spring/summer is to update my past creative work and share those pieces here. I have a lot of stories started that I’d love to finish and share with others. I write in a variety of genres, both in fiction and non-fiction, so hopefully you’ll find some things you enjoy.

Because I appreciate those who stop by to read my posts and interact on social media, I want to provide you with more of me. And as a writer, that means putting my stories out there for others to read. I hope in the coming months that you’ll be able to find a story or two that will entertain or inspire you.

In the meantime, I’d love to hear your stories. What are your creative skills? What kinds of novels/stories do you prefer to read? Any topics you’d like me to explore?
