About Me

Welcome! My name is Melanie Glinsmann. I am a writer and business professional from Lincoln, Nebraska.

I believe everyone has a creative side, whether they believe it or not. My goal is to help people reignite the creative spirit from childhood. Whether you’re a stay-at-home mom trying to help a child with the dreaded diorama project, an entrepreneur building a business model, or a research scientist experimenting with new medicines, creative thinking provides new and exciting ways to tackle any project. As children, our favorite activities included coloring or drawing, building elaborate creations with blocks or Lego bricks, and playing games in an imaginary world or our own. By the time we reach adulthood, many people set aside this sense of creativity for a world of busy schedules, family obligations, and work-related stress. I want to help people find ways to bring some creative thinking and play back into their lives.

My professional background in both education and business has allowed me to observe people of all ages and abilities. Since I love to people watch (a favorite past-time of many writers), I’ve noticed that many adults, especially those in more date driven and technical fields, do not see themselves as being creative. Even though I have always considered myself to be creative, working in a cubicle all day takes a toll on my own creative spirit. I found myself struggling to work on my novel or do other creative activities I used to enjoy.

As I tackled my own creative block, I have developed a passion for helping others learn the power pf creative thinking. Creativity doesn’t only belong to the Shakespeares and Michelangelos of the world. Creativity belongs to everyone. and I believe it is a necessary tool in both personal and professional life.

In my own writing, I strive to incorporate this idea through narrative development. As a business professional, I understand the importance of using creative approaches to meet the ever changing needs of customers and engaging employees. I would love to share these experiences and insights with others to help you overcome fear and self-doubt about creative pursuits.

A little about me personally – I moved a number of times growing up, living in Colorado, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. I came back to Nebraska for college. I have Bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in English. I have taught elementary, high school, college, and adult students in various capacities, as well as having over ten years in the corporate business world. I strive to combine my knowledge and experiences in my writing. I am currently working on my first novel, the basis of which came from a challenge posed by some of my students when I taught fourth grade. When they were assigned to write a fairy tale, they challenged me to write one as well. That fairy tale became the foundation of the novel.

When I’m not writing or sitting in my cubicle, I can be found reading and having enlightening philosophical conversations with my cat. I also love sports, especially the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Denver Broncos, Duke Blue Devils, and Atlanta Braves. I love being in the mountains, attending the theater, and spending time with my nieces.

I’m excited to share my own creative journey with you. If you’re looking for ways to add more creativity to your life, either personally or professionally, I hope you’ll follow along as I finish my novel and share insights into building a more creative life.
